3 tips for jumping out of bed in the morning full of energy [personal experience]

Once we were asked, “What can I do so that I start my day in the best possible way?”

It’s a very good question, indeed. We all have days when we feel like being at the top of the world. But then, of course, we all have those other days when we are completely down and out of energy or motivation. So, what do you think? How can we get our day set up for success?

“You can see the writing on the wall”… as early as in the morning

This is especially relevant at a time when working from home gains ground and one gets used to going around the house in a shirt and a tie /when on Zoom/ and be at the same time in shorts and slippers. Circumstances like that can hardly help. We have to learn how to set the right tone for a day of accomplishment.

It won’t be about goals today

We came to believe that the true meaning of everything could be expressed through a big and bold dream that we pursue with perseverance and enthusiasm. For us, it is beyond any doubt the one great reason to inject each new day with excitement and anticipation.

But let’s get into the particulars now and have a look at the following few “tricks”:

Tip # 1: Have a clear understanding of what you want to happen

For Ivan, the difference between a good and a bad day arises from careful and thoughtful planning.

So, he prioritizes the things he wants to do.

If we don’t get ourselves well organized around the scheduled commitments we will inevitably start stumbling early on. And as soon as we realize that we will also start losing momentum.

But when everything in our mind is tidy and organized things go well and we stay in control of it all.

Ivan’s very simple system

It’s called “The Three Most Important Things.”

Here’s how he does it – he writes them in the evening and reads them again in the morning. It is as if his mind has the time to “work” on it, aka “to sleep on it”.

But if that doesn’t quite work out then he makes a quick assessment first thing in the morning.

Tip # 2: Choose carefully what you do after you wake up

Let’s have two separate categories here which we will call tasks and rituals.

What is the first thing to do: start with some of the easy stuff

You must have seen Admiral William H. McRaven’s speech which went viral on the Internet a few months ago. In short, if you want to change the world, make your bed after you get up. No, it’s not a metaphor- if we can’t make a bed we’d better forget about our grand aspirations.

This is 100% true for Niki. He has noticed that if he completes a few minor chores in the early hours (whether at home or work) he will go on with a sense of accomplishment throughout the day.

This approach works for our children as well. One day Ivan’s daughter had too much homework. He suggested that she could start with what was easiest. And so she did – first the smaller bits and then the harder and bigger ones.

… Or you can start with what’s hardest

But there is another way – just do it in reverse and go for the biggest thing first. Or what is often called “to bite the bullet”.

It could be very helpful because you get to focus and move forward with more confidence. But there is some risk nevertheless. You may feel so intimidated by what is ahead of you that you start looking for excuses to put it off.

It doesn’t matter what you start with as long as you make a conscious commitment to it.

“The morning rituals”

The one thing we strongly recommend is to get in the habit of doing some specific and nice things early so that you tune yourself to the wave of positivity.

Niki, for example, has been doing meditation and breathing exercises for years now. This doesn’t take hours. It is something like 15-20 minutes which help him to clear his mind and bring in an attitude of determination to get things done throughout the day.

The possibility of an adverse effect

Most of us, however, fail to grasp the idea and therefore bring in the opposite result. Let’s say you hate to get up early and go to the gym. But at the same time you’ve read somewhere, that’s exactly what some successful people do. So, you are very much tempted to try to do that too. Well, we can guarantee you it will be torture and ultimately fail.

These rituals should be something easy, nice but most importantly invigorating. This is not the time to stress out about anything. This is the time for you.

Tip # 3: Make your day exciting

Let’s go back into our childhood and try to remember an interesting phenomenon:

Do you remember how hard it was to get up at 7:00 am and get ready for school? And how about in the morning when you were to hit the road for your trip to the seaside during the summer vacation? Quite a different story, right?

It was not that long ago when Niki’s son proved that some things do not change. On the day of a long-awaited school trip, the boy got up earlier than anybody else, got ready in no time, and even showed impatience with his parents. When they expect something exciting kids always become filled up with an incredible amount of energy.

If we manage to reconnect with our inner child to find what fills us with pure joy then there will be something new every single day to lift our spirits.

We get to experience this with each new workshop we run. The magic of being among people who want to achieve their dreams paired with the challenge of speaking to them is one of the best of wake up calls we ever get.

It doesn’t have to be something exceptional

Of course, vacations and any hard to do things such as running a marathon will do the job. But that doesn’t mean we can’t employ some other types of stimuli.

Everyone could find inspiration in their everyday life, i.e. going to the gym, or having a nice weekend with their family.

These seemingly trivial habits that charge us regularly turn out to be indispensable. At the end that’s exactly what we are looking for to give us a strong drive in life.

A quick summary

So far, we have presented to you our experience of how to start the day in the best possible way. Let’s list them quickly now:

  • Having clarity in planning saves the day for us – we take control of our lives for good;
  • Kicking off the day with some success (a small or a bigger one) or with something nice and positive, aka the morning rituals;
  • Always having something to look forward to that will get us out of bed even before the alarm clock does.

And what is it that pumps you up with energy?

If you are to get only one thing from this article then we wish it is this: take a moment to think about what the nature of the forces that get you out of bed is. Then perhaps you can try to figure out how to incorporate them into your day.

And why not share this in the comments section below? We will look at it carefully so that we can go on exploring even more of the great ideas that we can together come up with.

We wish you a wonderful day! See you soon!
